  1. Call to Order at 7:00 PM

  1. Motion made to accept Meeting Minutes from February 2011 by Neil. 2nd by Gary. Motion approved 6-0.
  2. Jamnesty Proposal- Brett present the proposal sent in by a group of Sharon High School students that are looking to put on a benefit concert for the Invisible Children Organization. The proposal was sent in as they were unable to change dates to accommodate Rec Advisory’s meeting date change that was made to accommodate the Finance Committee. Committee asked that they appear before them at the April meeting. Motion made by Gary. 2nd by Steve. Motion passed 6-0.
  3. Friends of the Playground- unable to make contact with new president.
  4. Women’s Softball- unable to make change in date. Will come to April 2011 meeting.
  5. Director’s Report- Discussed summer concerts including approval of $600 for Sharon Community Band to play for 90 minutes. Swim docks are to be repaired by end of week.
  6. Parking Issues at Sampson- Discussed a new traffic pattern at Deborah Sampson parking lot. One way to be an entrance and one way to be an exit. Discussed putting a stop light in and extending the fence on lot side towards the gardens. Brett to get an estimate.
  7. Finance Committee Meeting- Brett discussed what happened at the Finance Committee meeting. The main focus was on that of the telephone bills, that were centralize for the town. The Recreation department pays 8% of the bill each month.
  8. Field Permits- Spring 2011- Permits pending for SYBSA, awaiting insurance binder. Jon Lavien, Sharon Soccer, was in attendance and raised concern about the Recreation Department using Gavins Pond for a Recreation sponsored soccer camp during April vacation. John raised concerns about bathrooms, use of their equipment, how many out of town players would be attending, damage to the fields, Board of Health permits and a rain contingency

 

 

 

 

 plan. John also stated that Sharon Soccer had an exclusive agreement with another organization for soccer camps at Gavins. Brett stated that the Recreation Department had contracted with Mass Premier and it would be a Recreation Department camp. Brett reminded John that those are town fields and only the town can have exclusive agreements with camps to use town fields. Sharon Soccer can endorse camps. Brett said he would contact Mass Premier to get answers on the questions that remained.

  1. Basketball Report- Showed expenses were up at the schools by $3,427. Overall, it was a good season with many close championship games.
  2. Summer 2011- Amanda has wrapped up interviews for summer staff. Looking at purchasing a gator for the beach to be used for beach trash and maintenance. Would also need a storage unit to house it.
